Field Trips are an important component of the Porolissum Forum Project. We began with
a brief soujourn in Timisoara at which time we visited the Banat Museum of History, the Roman city of
Tibiscum and all the modern sites in Timisoara. We then drove toward Porolissum,
300 km to the north, crossing the Carpathian mountains and following several
river valleys. We stopped at Colonia Ulpia Traiana, Alba Iulia, Sighisoara and other towns along the way. On two weekends during the excavation season
we went on excursions to the beautiful cities of Baia Mare and Cluj-Napoca.
These visits allow us to gain a deeper appreciation for the vast and complex
history of western Romania, its architecture and art, and most importantly
its people and culture.
