An important component of the Porolissum Forum Project is its summer field school for university students. Students gain valuable experience that can be applied to excavations throughout the world. The 2008 Field Season will take place between June 12 and July 18.

Field School participants are trained in all aspects of excavation
, architectural surveying and analysis, drawing profiles and sections of trenches and architecture and the recovery and study of artifacts and ecofacts. The Field School also consists of excursions to sites within northwestern Romania through which students gain an understanding of the rich history and culture of Romania from prehistoric times to the present day.

The fee for the Porolissum Forum Project 2008 Field School is $2100, which includes housing, food and project-related ground travel during the field season as well as instruction and field trip costs (4 nights in a hotel, meals, site/museum tickets, etc.). This fee does not include travel expenses to and from Romania, travel insurance, personal expenses or academic credit. Students wishing to obtain academic credit at an additional cost should discuss the possibilities with Eric De Sena.

To apply to the 2008 Field School, please send an e-mail with your name, university, year of study, major/minor and a paragraph or so describing your experience and plans. Please note that no prior archaeological fieldwork is required and you do not have to be an archaeology, anthropology, classical studies or history major/minor. For most students, this will be their first excavation. Applications will be accepted as late as April 15, 2008; however, we will begin to select Field School members by November 2007.
